The next appointment of the Sagra Musicale Lucchese will be at Palazzo Ducale, in the Ademollo room tomorrow at 6pm. The title of the concert is “Genius and madness” as explained by the president of the Sagra, lawyer Giuseppe Alleanza: “After three concerts dedicated to religious music in churches of Lucca, who retraced some of the most significant stages in the evolution of musical language, from Gregorian chant to contemporary music, with tomorrow’s concert the Festival wants to pay homage to the great Lucca tradition of profane music”. “The chosen place is the Government Palace, now the seat of the Province, which was the seat of the Palace Chapel, a glorious city institution of which, among others, Luigi Boccherini, Francesco Xaverio Geminiani and Filippo Manfredi were part. The concert program, entitled Genius and Madness, does not allude to the well-known musical theme of “madness” nor to the mental disorders that have sometimes accompanied the lives of musicians. It alludes to the extraordinary creativity that is expressed in musical composition and interpretation. Genius and madness are in fact qualities that often coexist in human nature, like good and evil, light and darkness.”

The performers will be the soprano Maria Luigia Borsi, the pianist Roberto Barrali, and the violinists Brad Repp and Francesco Pavan. Music by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Barbara Strozzi, Antonio Vivaldi, Luigi Boccherini, George Friederich Händel, Sergei Prokofiev, Eugene Ysaye, Ottorino Respighi will be performed. Genius and Madness is a rather bizarre musical program that goes through the notable changes in language and style between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries, to amaze.
