Over the weekend Taurianova (RC) will be transformed into a large artist’s workshop en plein air thanks to the sixth edition ofInfiorata of Taurianova, an event twinned with Taurianova Capitale del Libro 2024 which from 21 to 23 June will color the entire XXIV May course with its floral carpets candidate to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An experience to live, especially for those who have never seen this show of ephemeral art, when the streets of the historic center are transformed into immense works of art made with flower petals. In fact, every year the artists, coming from different parts of Italy and the world, create floral carpets of extraordinary beauty and complexity, depicting sacred and profane images, symbols and characters of popular culture.

In the middle of the old city, in via San Francesco d’Assisi 35, some of the artisanal, artistic and creative practices that live and express themselves in this space will be presented to the public, filling it with new energy. After years of abandonment, this building was reopened at the end of 2021 by a small group of people, inhabitants of the neighborhood, with the common desire to set up a space where they can meet and stop to create, learn and share.

Gerocarne (VV), the village of potters, is the new stage of the appointment between history and nature promoted by the “Terre bruniane” association. “Gerocarne, history of brigandage and craftsmanship” is scheduled for June 23rd and is part of the cycle of events designed to get to know the Calabrian villages. During the journey, participants will be able to immerse themselves in the history and nature of Gerocarne along one of the paths of “I Cammini del Brigante”, in the green Morano forest, once populated by charcoal burners and refuge of the legendary brigand Musolino. The view from the majestic Stone of Weapons will leave you breathless. Then straight to the master potter Tommaso Papillo on a fascinating tour of the historic center of Gerocarne. The culmination of the experience will be the visit to the “Artisan Pottery Quarter”, where, in an authentic workshop, the secrets of this ancient art will be revealed, handed down from generation to generation since the sixteenth century and still alive in the heart of the town with creation of a clay artifact.

In Santa Domenica Talao (CS), the “Harvest Festival – nature that nourishes“, a way to request an abundant harvest, a prayer that many people dedicate to Demeter, goddess of nature and agriculture. An invocation to the richness of the fields, in particular of wheat, a symbol of new life, as a hope for a period of well-being and prosperity even in everyday life. The Harvest Festival will be held at the Straw Amphitheater of the Trattoria Rurale ViGreen, a place immersed in the nature of the Pollino National Park, from 21 to 23 June, dates during which fertility and rebirth are celebrated by some cultures, as well as the solstice in summer, when there is a greater number of hours of light on earth. The program will be enriched by moments of sharing, visits to the historic center, and concerts, without forgetting a space dedicated to girls and boys.

The summer tour opens right in Calabria: Ron will be in concert Sunday 23 June at the Teatro dell’Abbazia Florense in San Giovanni in Fiore (CS) for the first stage of a calendar that will take him around Italy. “Prepare yourselves for this unmissable evening of author’s music, in one of the most beautiful settings of Calabria and in one of the most magical periods of the year: on the eve of the feast of Saint John the Baptist and in the week of roots tourism, of which San Giovanni in Fiore is the capital. I’m waiting for you to celebrate all together, in the name of music that never fades”, writes the mayor, Rosaria Succurro, on social media.

Every year, in the month of June, Bisignano (CS) comes alive for the Palio del Principe, a historical re-enactment that takes you back in time, to the time when the city was governed by the Princes. In addition to the carousel, the Palio del Principe includes a rich program of collateral events. It begins with the historical procession, which sees figures in period costumes parading through the streets of the historic centre, representing the various guilds and nobles of the time. This is followed by falconry shows, live music, food stands with typical Calabrian products and moments of entertainment in the streets of the village. On Sunday 23 June, the Renaissance procession will take place in the historic centre, while on 30 June all attention will be paid to the knightly jousting in the Campo del Palio.
