Milan, 21 June. (askanews) – Thirty wineries, over 50 Vitovske to taste, four guest winemakers, a conference, gastronomic products based on fresh and local ingredients, and guided wine tastings in one of the most beautiful locations in the Karst: Duino Castle (Trieste ). The 18th edition of “Mare and Vitovska in Morje” was presented today, the annual event organized by the Carso-Drustvo Carso Vino Kras winemakers’ association dedicated to Vitovska, a local variety born from the natural crossing of Malvasia and Glera, symbol of the Karst.

“In an era in which large productions dominate the market, events such as ‘Mare and Vitovska in Morje’ represent a bulwark in defense of small local productions” explained Skerlj, adding that “it is essential not to be persuaded by the dynamics of large producers and rediscover the value of artisan work, carried out in full respect of nature. The protection of native varieties such as Vitovska – he underlined – not only preserves the richness of our wine heritage, but also promotes a model of sustainable and environmentally friendly development”.

The opening conference will be held on Friday 28 June at 3.30 pm in the conference room of the Duino Castle and will focus on the theme “Does the origin create the product or does the product create the origin?”. Moderated by Stefano Cosma, speakers will include Matej Skerlj, president of the Association of Carso winemakers, Oscar Farinetti, founder of Eataly, Luca Sarais, owner of the Milanese wine shop “Cantine Isola”, Fabrizio Gallino, councilor of the Banca del Vino in Pollenzo and Slow Wine collaborator.
