Crystal clear waters, places unique for their scenic beauty, attentive to sustainability, but also to the protection of biodiversity. These are the Italian seaside resorts where the Cinque Vele of Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club fly: 21 marine tourist municipalities and 12 lakeside resorts awarded with the important banner and awarded yesterday in Rome on the occasion of the presentation of the guide The most beautiful sea 2024 , curated by the environmental association and the Italian Touring Club.
In the ranking, Maremma stands out with several award-winning locations. In this edition, Castiglione della Pescaia ranks fifth among the seaside resorts. An award highlights the Municipality’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. In the category of lakeside resorts, Massa Marittima takes third place thanks to the splendid Accesa lake, representing an excellence of the Maremma. Also awarded the Cinque Vele are the municipalities of Isola del Giglio, Capalbio and the new entry Grosseto. These locations, together with Castiglione della Pescaia and Massa Marittima, testify to the territory’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and protecting its precious natural heritage. This year, the guide also introduced recognition for mutual friends of sea turtles, reported to tourists and citizens with a dedicated banner. Among these, Castiglione della Pescaia, Grosseto and Orbetello stand out as places that have adopted measures to make the beaches welcoming also for Caretta caretta turtles. These are administrations which, through a specific memorandum of understanding, have undertaken to adopt a series of measures to make the beaches welcoming also for the turtles that lay their eggs as well as for bathers.
Further mention for Castiglione della Pescaia which signed the A_GreeNet protocol as a model reality of experiences of protection, valorisation and redevelopment of coastal and urban pine forests.
