Torchlight procession in memory of Sara Romano, the 21-year-old girl hit and killed by a car on Sunday 5 May 2024, in Coroglio, while she was trying to sit in the driving seat of her car, to replace a friend who didn’t feel like driving. Almost two months after that violent accident that took her life, the Next June 27th, friends and family will take to the streets to remember the young woman, originally from the historic center. Appointment at 7.30 pm in Piazza Bovio – also known as Piazza Borsa – with departure at 8.00 pm. The procession will go along Corso Umberto, Piazza Nicola Amore, Via Duomo, Via Marina on the sidewalk on the Loreto Mare side, up to Piazza Mercato, the area where the girl was originally from. Here the demonstration should arrive around 9pm.
The community’s pain over the death of the 21-year-old
Sara’s disappearance shook the entire city of Naples. The community gathered in mourning around the pain of the girl’s family, heartbroken by her terrible and premature loss. Hundreds of people took part in the funeral on May 11th, celebrated at the Church of the Carmine of Naples. The road accident occurred in via Pasquale Leonardi Cattolica on the night of Sunday 5 May.
In recent weeks, friends, family and even ordinary citizens have gone to the site to leave flowers, letters and memories for the girl, whose life was cut short in such a tragic way. Sara was originally from the Mercato district, in the historic center of Naples. In the same hours and not far away, another girl, Rita Granata, 27 years old, was hit and killed in Fuorigrotta, in via Leopardi. She had just gotten out of a taxi and was crossing to enter the front door of her house. The young woman died after 3 days of hospitalization.
