Menaggio (Como), 21 June 2024 – Controversies and tensions in the majority of center-right in Lombardy and also in the council (with vitriolic exchanges between councillors) the announcement made yesterday by the head of Welfare Guido Bertolaso that the Menaggio hospital, in Como, it will come reorganized “to assist the population with critical problems” and therefore closing the emergency room.
They arrived immediately the criticisms, starting from a joint statement from the Como exponents of the majority parties in the Regional Council: Gigliola Spelzini, Maria Cesana, Anna Dotti and Sergio Gaddi, who were joined by the councilor for Research Alessandro Fermi, therefore Bertolaso’s council mate.
“We contest the method, which in this case also becomes merit. It was announced the desire to close the emergency room of the Menaggio hospital without either the regional representatives or the mayors of the area being aware of it – they wrote -. We were all in waiting for the results of an analysis commissioned by Asst Lariana on the services provided by this unitand then study a consolidation and strengthening project shared by all. We are sorry that the sense of responsibility and collaboration demonstrated by all the mayors of the Como area in recent years have been ‘repaid’ with a completely unexpected announcement”.
“Announcing, without any warning, the closure of the Erba-Renaldi PS is a forcing that does not solve any problem”, they continued by promising that the issue will not end like this: “In the next few days We will talk about it with President Fontana. For us, for the citizens and for the mayors, the survival of the hospital is a non-negotiable priority.”
The dissent was not only expressed via press releases but also via WhatsApp in the councilors’ chat with Fermi who defined unacceptable, disrespectful and unjustifiable the announcement made without notifying anyone, and Bertolaso who, after recalling how the matter was handled with prudence to respect the electoral commitment of Fermi, candidate for the European elections, said he was available, indeed “very happy to pass the baton to whoever the President wants also tomorrow morning”.
