Youth policies, Siena municipal youth council kicks off

The Siena City Council in its meeting yesterday, Thursday 20 June, resolved to begin the process for the establishment of the municipal youth council, on the proposal of the councilor for youth policies Micaela Papi. The consultation, as stated in the text of the resolution, is configured as a consultative and proactive body towards the municipal council and the municipal council for initiatives concerning youth policies, and will be made up of young Sienese citizens aged between sixteen and twenty. .

“This new body will represent a tool for participation in democratic life and institutions – explains councilor Papi – as it will encourage the full and effective involvement of young people in the political and administrative life of the Municipality. The municipal youth council will be established through a process that will start ‘from the bottom’, i.e. from the youth world and will be able to propose ideas, initiatives and opinions on topics of interest, directly to the municipal elective bodies”.

For the structuring of the municipal youth council, the Municipality of Siena deems it necessary to rely on a person with adequate ability and experience in the establishment of youth participation bodies, and therefore undertakes to provide a maximum expenditure of 15 thousand 500 euros for twelve months for the activities aimed at establishing the body and the regulations for its functioning.

The councilor for youth policies of the Municipality of Siena Micaela Papi underlines that “at a time when the youth reality is in continuous movement and the problems that concern it are multiple and complex, it is essential to activate moments of discussion by institutionalizing a specific place where the young people can have the say on problems concerning the Municipality, thus ensuring training in democratic life and the management of city life”.
