Grosseto. Grosseto wins the Cinque Vele by Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club for the summer of 2024, one more than those of 2023.
The recognition was officially announced today, 21 June, in Rome, on the occasion of the presentation of the guide “The most beautiful sea”.
“Our territory – comment the mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna and the environmental councilor Erika Vanelli – It is increasingly proving to be a symbol of beauty, respect for the environment and landscapes. The Five Sails concern our entire coast, for this reason the term ‘Marine’ in the plural was used on the flag. Not only that: the Municipality has also received further recognition as a sea turtle-friendly reality, a definition that falls within the scope of the European Life Turtlenest project coordinated by Legambiente”.
Through the stipulation of a specific memorandum of understanding, the administration has in fact undertaken to adopt a series of measures (manual cleaning of the beaches, reduction of light and noise pollution) which aim to make the beaches increasingly welcoming also for sea turtles, as well as for tourists and the local population. A commitment that from this month also sees the involvement of “Tarta dogs”: Marina di Grosseto is in fact a place for selecting and training dogs and handlers who monitor the beaches in search of sea turtle nests, providing valuable support to researchers and volunteers engaged in carrying out this activity.
“We are convinced – they conclude mayor and aldermanAnd – that it is necessary to focus more and more on a line of development that respects the environment and the balance of nature. Grosseto and its territory, in this sector, can play a role of primary importance at a national level: the recognitions achieved and the activities implemented are clear confirmation of this”.
