Urso: ok from Cdm to dl on critical raw materials

Rome, 20 June. (askanews) – The Council of Ministers gives the green light to the law decree on critical raw materials. This was announced by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in the press conference at the end of the CDM.

The decree, approved on the proposal of Mimit and Mase, adapts the national legislation on the mining sector to the European one envisaged by the Regulation of last April.

The Regulation, explained Urso, “allows the Union and Italy to have the necessary elements to face the green and digital transition”.

Urso explained that the Regulation identifies 34 critical raw materials and of them “in Italian territory we have at least 15”. The decree concerns both extraction activities, processing and recycling of critical raw materials.

“To be defined as strategic,” said Urso, “a project must be validated by the European Commission. We know that some projects will soon be presented by companies” and the decree therefore provides the legislative cover to intervene.

The decree on critical raw materials approved by the Council of Ministers “simplifies the procedures for authorizations and finalizes one billion euros from the Made in Italy fund, as the first allocation, to develop the strategic extraction chain and thus contribute to the creation of a large national actor who is missing today”.
