Those that pass in the heat of Trigoria are certainly special days for the women’s Roma, now with their heads turned towards the next season between incoming and outgoing movements: or between farewells, like that of Anja Sonstevold. The Norwegian player turns 32 today, which is usually not too many to decide to hang up her boots. But she made this decision in the total awareness of having given everything to the cause, to the Giallorossi colours. And perhaps there was no better way to leave the scenes than her, after a season that added such important trophies to her showcase in the last part of her career.

Last May 28, the footballer announced her farewell to playing football after a brilliant career which saw her excel in numerous competitions. Her decision to retire was made calmly, a few days before she was once again decisive in winning the Italian Cup in Cesena, which came to a penalty shootout against Fiorentina. A historic victory, that of her, which will remain etched in the memory of her and all the fans. Fortunately, her missed penalty was not decisive for the final result. Even though it still represented a moment of tension and great pressure for the Giallorossi.

Sonstevold will remain a symbol of determination and talent in the world of women’s football. In Norway, but also on the banks of the Tiber. The Scandinavian’s career took place mainly in her homeland with the shirts of Kolbotn and LSK Kvinner, before a brief period in France at Fleury. Then the move to Italy in 2021 among the ranks of Inter. During her career she demonstrated great technical skills and exceptional leadership, becoming a reference figure for the teams in which she played. Her playing style has made her a highly respected player in the international football scene, and it is no coincidence that she has landed at Roma for the final, beautiful, chapter of her career.

On 16 January 2024, purchased from Roma to make up for the lack of Aigbogun, out due to a serious injury. With the Giallorossi she played 18 games in total between Serie A and the Italian Cup, winning both competitions. In practice, she closes in the best possible way her fantastic football parable that began in the suburbs of Oslo. Her contribution on the pitch has always been fundamental, proving to be an essential addition due to her versatility and ability to create opportunities along the flank. This achievement represented an emotional epilogue to her footballing history, and leaves a legacy of successes and memories that Roma fans are unlikely to forget. Happy birthday Anja!
