PERUGIA – «Support for the development of a product of excellence for Umbria such as the truffle, and in internal areas, is an opportunity for the redevelopment of hilly and mountainous areas which ensures economic sustainability for local companies», these are the words of Fabio Rossi, president of Confagricoltura Umbria, after the clarifications made by the regional department for agricultural and agri-food policies regarding the position taken by the Coordination of Umbria truffle associations, with which in recent days the meeting scheduled for Saturday 22nd was announced June. Department which reiterates that the underlying objective is to safeguard the prerogatives and value of free research.

In fact, Confagricoltura wants to highlight the support given by the farmers’ association, in the various meetings held with representatives of the agricultural world, to the work of the department on the topic of truffles, in defense of the agricultural enterprise and on the right to use the truffle resource for corporate sustainability in difficult times like the current ones.
Truffle, therefore, which for Confagricoltura Umbria must be protected as an identifying product, also for the valorisation of the territory: «Enhancing the internal areas, with a naturalistic vocation, with crops such as truffle cultivation, also given the difficulties of traditional cultivations, means bringing – he further underlines Rossi – an added value in terms of economic sustainability. Truffle cultivation as a sustainable crop for the environment as it does not require phytosanitary treatments and fertilizations, to achieve what is called ecological transition”.

In this whole process, agricultural companies are fundamental, precisely as a tool for protecting and managing the territory, because they allow the direct valorization by the owners of the products of the forest and undergrowth (truffles, mushrooms, etc.) as a legitimate source of income and of environmental sustainability of the territory.
Confagricoltura is therefore determined to support the right of agricultural entrepreneurs to defend agricultural production. And it believes it is important and necessary to protect the legitimate owner’s right to enjoy the property.
