Roads, motorways, railways, ports, intermodal logistics: infrastructures are crucial to making Veneto and the whole country increasingly modern and sustainable. Of the almost 17 billion euros of investments envisaged by the Pnrr for the Veneto, 9.4 billion euros are dedicated to infrastructure. In particular, for specific focuses on logistics and interventions on the building heritage, funds exceeding 320 million have been allocated (Source: OpenPnrr by Openpolis Foundation). Important resources for a decisive issue for the future of the Region and of the almost 62 thousand local companies active in the construction sector, equal to 14% of the total local entrepreneurial fabric (Source: Movimprese). This was also discussed during the third stage of the Saie Lab in Verona, a traveling laboratory focused on the theme of design and technical evolution in infrastructures and logistics properties, organized by Senaf in preparation for Saie, the Construction Fair: design , construction, systems, scheduled a BolognaFiere from 9 to 12 October 2024.

Saie Observatory: the numbers of the construction chain in Veneto

The Venetian construction industry is in a moment of light and shadow. Two data in particular speak clearly: the order book, judged adequate by 78% of companies, and the 2023 turnover, growing for more than half of the companies involved (55%). If we consider only the last four months, 22% of companies recorded an increase in revenues, the same percentage as those who already expect to close the year on a positive note and with a medium-high level of satisfaction relating to the current economic trend. The number of companies that have aincreased the salaries of collaborators, 4 out of 10 (40%). But the real emergency affecting businesses is the lack of qualified manpower: over 8 out of 10 (83%) have had difficulty finding it on the market.

Consequently, the lack of technical-professional training results among the main critical factors of the sector (57%), surpassed only by bureaucracy (71%) and fiscal aspects (70%). If we add to this that only 17% of the companies in the sample consider the level of skills already totally in line with their growth needs, then it becomes essential to focus on training, among the most important investment items. The analysis shows that 83% of companies have activated training programs to enhance staff skills.

But according to the companies in the sector, what are the decisive measures for the future?
Entrepreneurs above all indicate incentives, unblocking of construction sites and bureaucracy reform (75%, 50% and 37% respectively). And on the topic of the moment, artificial intelligence? It is certainly a factor that could favor the growth of the sector, speeding up and renewing industrial processes and supply. For this reason, half of the 50% sample is taking action to understand how to implement this technology in their business. If you look at the use of other technologies, the Veneto construction world is already ahead and in fact is already applying, or will apply, IT security, 5G and finally IoT (Internet of Things) systems. Also attention to the environment and the adoption of green initiatives in the company are changing the sector and above all the way of working, in particular the actions in favor of sustainability most undertaken are the use of low energy consumption devices, the reuse of waste materials and the purchase of new generation machinery or systems.

Saie Lab Verona

The Verona conference is part of the cycle of Saie Lab, the traveling know-how workshops organized by saie, the construction fair. After the stages of Ancona and Florence, this year’s Saie Labs will end in June with the last laboratory Saie Lab Bari The purpose of these events is twofold: to explore the most important vertical themes of construction and to prepare the construction community for saie 2024, the reference fair for the entire sector, which will return to BolognaFiere from 9 to 12 October after the success of the 2022 edition, with over 430 exhibiting companies and 37 thousand visitors, and the 2023 edition in Bari.

In Bologna, You know will propose a dynamic and immersive formula thanks to the combination of exhibition spaces, training conferences, demonstration areas and highly interactive contests. An event that for professionals means seeing first-hand the latest products and solutions offered by the sector, updating on the latest technical training news, but also and above all new market and networking opportunities.

Four thematic sectors – Design and Digitalization; Building; Installations; Services and media – which, together with the numerous special initiatives, will focus on the construction site and the issues that will determine the future of construction: sustainability, infrastructure, training and innovation.

From 9 to 12 October, leading companies in the market, professionals, politicians and associations will discuss, at Saie Bologna 2024, the main themes of building, plant engineering and construction: infrastructure, concrete, doors and windows, seismic, energy efficiency of the building, digitalisation of the construction site, offsite and new construction techniques, technical finishes and colour, machines and equipment and much more. Among the special initiatives planned there is also saie Infrastrutture, dedicated to the valorisation of Italian excellence in the design and management of public works and strategic infrastructures. Through conferences, round tables and demonstration sessions, operators will discuss national infrastructure priorities and the opportunities of the Pnrr and European programs. Among the main themes: sustainability, reduction of energy consumption, urban regeneration and territorial safety.

«Digitalization and BIM are issues that are involving the entire construction chain, transforming it in the direction of greater process control, reduction of errors, optimization of resources. Factors which therefore affect an increase in the overall quality of the construction process. This transformation finds excellent application in the design and construction processes of logistics structures, where correct planning, executive precision and respect for deadlines are essential elements. Assobim’s mission is to support all those entities, such as Saie, that are committed to the promotion and dissemination of technological innovation in the construction supply chain. We sponsor the initiative precisely for its contents and to further consolidate the relationship that binds us to Saie”.

«The design and management of logistics infrastructures are areas that have had a technical and organizational evolution worthy of knowledge and diffusion towards the main operators in the sector.
The College of Italian Railway Engineers (Cifi) has represented the technical and cultural reference of the railway and transport system since 1899 and, among its aims, promotes the study of all aspects relating to it. Cifi’s interest in sponsoring the Saie Lab initiative lies in the possibility of focusing the attention of its members on these topics, allowing them to delve deeper into the topics presented and broaden their expertise”.

Giovanni Saba | Vice President Conpaviper

«Industrial flooring in the logistics sector is more than a structure: the performance it must guarantee goes beyond simple mechanical resistance but also considers all the functional aspects characteristic of the specific work, such as flatness, resistance to wear, toughness , cleanability. This is why the quality of the specifications and the project, like that of the applicator company, are essential elements to achieve the expected result. In this Saie event we bring our experience to give support to those who design and prescribe these works today.”

Emilio Bianchi | Director Saie
