The future of Sporting Catanzaro Lido is becoming increasingly uncertain. After launching a heartfelt appeal to obtain support from the area, the Giallorossi club received no concrete answers. However, a new opportunity could arise thanks to the province, which seems interested in a possible collaboration with Real Montepaone.
The words of President Tarantino
Domenico Tarantino, president of Sporting Catanzaro Lido, did not hide the difficulty of the situation: «It’s a real possibility unfortunately. On the other hand, we said straight away that the desire to move forward was there but we would also need a hand from the outside to do so.” Tarantino confirmed that there have been significant discussions with the Montepaone club, exploring the possibility of joining forces for the good of local football.
In recent days, Tarantino had requested a sign of support from the seaside district and the Municipality, hoping for help with the costs of the sports facilities after the relegation from Promotion to the First Category. However, the response was minimal, and the interest shown by Real Montepaone quickly turned into a concrete possibility of collaboration.
«We found a very strong interest on their part – declared Tarantino – The objective is to make Real Madrid a solid reality; the administration there offers support for the structures and thinking about a project is not as difficult as it is here”. This mutual interest is also based on the pre-existing collaboration between the youth sectors of the two clubs, which facilitated the discussion of a larger project.
With both clubs participating in the same championship, there are mainly two options on the table: a transfer of the Sporting Catanzaro Lido team to Real Montepaone or a possible transfer of Sporting’s sporting title to another entity willing to take up its legacy. This second option would mark the end of a long history of sporting battles for the “eagles” of via Murano, an event that would represent a bitter defeat for the city and the neighborhood.
