Brescia. Friday 21 June 2024, at 6.00 pm, at Carme Cultural Association, the event is inaugurated in via delle Battaglia 61/1 in Brescia “Contaminations” dedicated to the presentation of two successful practices that characterized the 2023/2024 Academic Year of theBrescia SantaGiulia Academy of Fine Arts, with headquarters in Via Nicolò Tommaseo 49 in Brescia.
In the headquarters of the Carme Association, located in the former Church of Saints Filippo and Giacomo, in via delle Battaglia 61/1, in the heart of the city of Brescia, the scientific project will be presented “Contaminations” and the artistic results of the “Final Critics” linked to the teaching of students of two-year course in Contemporary Visual Arts; two concrete examples of activities related to art and research.
“Contaminations” is a project born from the collaboration between the University of Brescia and the Academy of Fine Arts of Brescia SantaGiulia in 2023, in conjunction with Bergamo and Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023. The exchange of visions between biological sciences and artistic disciplines has saw Unibs students working on biomaterials using microorganisms such as fungi and agro-industrial and urban organic waste provided by A2A, promoting sustainability and the recovery of urban waste. Subsequently, students at the Accademia SantaGiulia used these biomaterials to create innovative works of art. The multidisciplinary nature of the project which moves between art and science, intends to experiment with new artistic methodologies responding to the needs of the circular economy and ecological transition.
The project will be accompanied by a scientific publication, drawn up in collaboration between the University of Brescia and theBrescia SantaGiulia Academy of Fine Arts. The research group of the SantaGiulia Academy is coordinated by Prof. Marco La Rosa, assisted and supported by teachers Elena Rogna And Mario Branca, and from Anna Cancarini, Duccio Guarneri, Martina Oldani, Giovanni Rossi And Alessandra Violastudents and former students of the Academy.
Similarly to scientific research, the formula of Final Critics represents an essential element for the Brescia training institution. On Thursday 20 June, the students of the two-year course of Contemporary Visual Arts had the opportunity to meet and present a selection of the most representative of their journey. The illustrious guests of this edition were the gallery owner Federico RuiThe collector Andrea Boghi and the curator Ilaria Bignotti, thus offering young artists a rare opportunity for dialogue and comparison, essential for the growth and maturation of their artistic language, and allowing them to receive immediate and constructive feedback. To top it all, the hospitality and collaboration undertaken with the Carme Cultural Association, which has been working and researching local and international artists since 2017, aiming to define new aesthetics and trends in contemporary art through different types of media, and which will welcome students’ works in its spaces.
