Legnano – “What really happens in the halls of power?”. “Dentro il Palazzo”, the latest book by Carlo Cottarelli (and Mondadori) that the author will present, starts from this question Monday 24 June at 9pm in the park of the library in via Cavour as part of the “La Bella estate” program. In “Inside the Palace” Cottarelli provides a snapshot of our institutions and imagines how Italian and European politics and economics could evolve if current trends continue, including the constitutional reform of the premiership, a topic which, in recent days, is taking center stage in the media.
Strengthened by his first-hand experience (senator for eight months from October 2022 to May 2023), Cottarelli examines the state of our politics, recording distortions, inefficiencies, lost potential, describing the functioning of our Parliament from the inside and dealing, among the other, issues of burning current affairs such as the progressive downsizing of its role compared to that of the government, the debate now reduced to a clash between opposing factions, the salaries of deputies and senators, the byzantine nature of practices, the distancing of citizens from voting , but also what can be done to bring citizens closer to politics. The author also recounts, for the first time in detail, those four days which saw him, in spring 2018, go up to the Quirinale several times in an attempt to form a new government. The evening is organized in collaboration with the “Galleria del libro” bookshop; the meeting will be moderated by Amanda Colombo. Entrance is free. In case of bad weather the meeting will take place at Palazzo Leone da Perego.
