PESCARA. A 27-year-old homeless man, with a criminal record, was arrested in the afternoon by the flying squad for attempting to steal an electric bike. The young man also ended up in trouble for threatening the owners who had caught him in the act.
It was just after 2pm when the police headquarters operations center was contacted by a man, whose wife had just caught the thief while he was trying to steal her bicycle, kept in the garden inside a condominium complex near the court.
The perpetrator of the theft, after seeing himself discovered, brandished a large hammer with which he was trying to break the bike lock against the woman, and then walked away. At that point the woman had warned her husband who, having gone out into the street and without ever losing sight of the young man, he called the police headquarters operations room, remaining on the phone with the operator and indicating the direction of the 27-year-old’s escape. In the meantime, the latter realized he was being followed, and threw some stones collected in the street at the man, but was unable to hit him.
In the end the patrols, arriving on site, intercepted and stopped the thief: once the search began, they found the hammer with which he had scared the couple in his backpack, together with other burglary tools that could be used to cut padlocks and locks. He was then handcuffed for attempted improper robbery and taken to prison, awaiting the validation hearing.
