Health protection, Calabria ‘strongly insufficient’

Catanzaro – Calabria is among the Italian regions that are highly insufficient in terms of health and socio-health performance, with an index of 0.26 which places it in last place in Italy, despite an increase in performance, in the five-year period 2017-2022, of 102.9%. This is what emerges from the 2024 Report “Opportunities for Health Protection: Regional Performance”, an analysis conducted by 104 experts grouped by CREA Sanità (Centre for Applied Economic Research in Healthcare) for which researchers and university professors from various fields work. . The study is not limited to the evaluation of the health and economic aspects but also analyzes the social and equity aspects of care. It was conducted on the basis of 20 indicators divided into five dimensions: equity, appropriateness, outcomes, innovation, economic-financial and social and , it is explained, “the result gives the real measure of the effectiveness of the organization and the outcomes of social and healthcare assistance”. Calabria, according to the report, has an index varying between 0.24 and 0.29 also in the various sectors on which the evaluation is made up: users, institutions, healthcare professions, corporate management and industry.
