The Second Edition of the Strait Tourism Meeting is underway: Initiatives in Messina and Reggio Calabria from 23 to 29 June 2024

Palazzo Zanca was the stage for today’s presentation of the program of the “Meeting Tourism of the Strait” 2024 edition, promoted by the Basile Administration. This edition, now in its second season, will be held in Messina from 23 to 26 June and subsequently in Reggio Calabria from 27 to 29 June. The press conference saw the participation of the mayors of Messina, Federico Basile, and of Palmi, Giuseppe Ranuccio, the latter also delegated to Tourism of the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria; together with the councilors Enzo Caruso for Tourism and Massimo Finocchiaro for Productive Activities. Also present were the Tourism delegate of Reggio Calabria Giovanni Latella, the president of the Messina Chamber of Commerce Ivo Blandina, Dr. Cristiana Laurà of the Strait Port System Authority and Veronica Calveri, vice-president of the MedFort Association which coordinates the studies on the fortifications of the Strait.

Mayor Basile underlined the opportunity that Messina and Reggio Calabria have to become a unique and attractive tourist hub, highlighting the synergy between the two cities as a key element for stable and non-occasional tourism development. Councilor Caruso emphasized the importance of promoting the territory of the Strait Area and of including the two cities in the national and international circuits of experiential tourism, offering sector operators the opportunity for B2B meetings via the website www. tourismmessina.it.

Meeting Tourism enjoys the patronage of the airline Ryanair, which recently expanded its national and European routes to Strait Airport. Councilor Finocchiaro reiterated the importance of institutional collaboration between Messina and Reggio Calabria to enhance their respective historical, environmental and food and wine attractions through the Meeting Tourism format.

Delegate Latella highlighted the historical significance of the event for both cities, while mayor Ranuccio announced his intention to soon formalize the Vara protocol between Messina and Palmi. President Blandina praised the participatory approach of Meeting Tourism in promoting tourism in the Strait Metropolitan Area, while Dr. Laurà underlined the commitment of the Port System Authority to increase tourist presences in Messina and Reggio Calabria.
