The words of the former Bari captain, Valerio Di Cesare, who returned to the failed promotion to Serie A for the 2023/24 season.
“The night of that disastrous Bari-Cagliari match is a remorse that will accompany me for the rest of my life. Even today I continue to ask myself: could I have done something more to bring my Bari to Serie A? But then I think about it, and in the end the best thing is that Bari appreciates me for the man I am, for what I have shown. I have always said what I think, sometimes even wrongly, and with the same sincerity I can say that I have put Bari before everything many times.”
So during an interview granted to the microphones of “La Repubblica-Bari”, the former captain of the cockerelsValerio Di Cesarewho retired from playing football after the playout win and joined the management of the Apulian club.
“A few weeks ago I was near Terni and I stopped to get petrol. The petrol station attendant approached me and asked: “Is that really you?”. And I: “It depends…”. He: “What he did to us relegate to C!”. Moments of fear, then we both burst out laughing and hugged each other.”
Going instead to the present: “It’s hard, it hasn’t all slipped away from me yet. And I already know that in the retreat it will be difficult to see my former teammates while they train. But it was president Luigi De Laurentiis who proposed this task to me. And I immediately accepted.
