Triathlon Gennargentu: victories for Cossu (Fuel Triathlon) and Eleonora Chessa (Tri Team Sassari)

The Gennargentu 2024 Olimpico Triathlon in Fonni was a great success, organized by the Three Experience with the collaboration of the Municipalities of Fonni and Gavoi, the Sardinia Region, the BIM Taloro and the Italian Triathlon Federation. About a hundred athletes started swimming with two 750 meter laps in the enchanting Gusana lake. Followed by the road bike test of 38.4 kilometers starting from the lake, until reaching the town of Fonni and then traveling along the outskirts of Fonni up to Passo Caravai and continuing along the entire valley floor of Pratobello, then the passage to the Gavossai lake dam and return to the town center and arrival at the “Coleo” sports field. From there the third test, ten kilometers of running (three laps of 3.3 kilometres), with a lot of climbing and fatigue alleviated by the spectacular, most characteristic and evocative points of the center of Fonni.

The winner was the very strong Manuel Cossu of Fuel Triathlon who finished with the stratospheric time of two hours and twelve minutes. In the relay, the Villacidro Triathlon won with Chiara and Gabriele Porta and Davide Ecca (total time two hours and twenty-two minutes). Second place for Gianni Morendi with Rossella Cambedda, Maurizio Puggioni and Giambattista Piana (+7:51). Third Special Care with Federico Picciau, Davide Versace and Dario Zara (+8:58).

«A fantastic event», says mass physiotherapist Stefano Manca who assisted the athletes with his doctor father Armando. «Congratulations to all the athletes who compete in these three disciplines». The organization was impeccable, including the presence of the sports masseur. «It should be like this at all events. The figure of the masseur is important for the pre-competition massage, to prepare the muscles well for the effort and above all to prevent injuries that could affect performance or even more serious injuries for the future and one’s sporting career. In addition to the pre-race massage”, explains Manca, “there is also the post-race massage which serves to help the athlete accelerate muscle recovery, encouraging and speeding up the elimination of lactic acid. It is a very pleasant massage because it helps muscle relaxation and generally promotes psychophysical recovery and helps heal the small microtraumas that are created during the gesture. Both a professional athlete and an amateur with a high level of training intensity looking to improve their condition and performance should include massage as part of their weekly training plan as a preventative measure, before it is too late and they need to take advantage of it. as injury rehabilitation. The use of this massage has the benefit of reducing the sense of tiredness and physical heaviness. The post-race sports massage is performed a few minutes after the end of the performance.” In Sardinia it is rare to see, for example, at the end of large mass events gazebos where the masseur is present.
