In the plenary meeting held today, 19 June, electronically, the Superior Council of Public Education (CSPI) expressed two opinions, both favorable

with the appreciation of the system thus defined by the local authority.

The provincial law of Bolzano 16.7.2008, n. 5 (art. 1, c. 13), provided that pupils who renounce to participate in compulsory teaching of the Catholic religion must participate in an alternative educational offer, the details of which are regulated by an implementing regulation. In implementation of this, the detailed regulations were issued with decree of the President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano dated 21.3.2024, n. 2. With the resolution subject to opinion (n. 240/2024) the relevant provincial indications for the alternative “Ethics” training offer have been approved, indications intended both for primary and lower secondary schools and for high schools and technical institutes in Ladin localities.

The CSPI, in this regard, underlines that «the teaching of “Ethics” contributes to the development of personality, strengthening respect for human dignity and peaceful coexistence. The basic discipline of the compulsory “Ethics” training offer is philosophy, but it also involves other disciplines such as psychology, sociology, pedagogy, anthropology, religious sciences, theologies of various religious communities, history , political science, law, economics, media studies, gender studies, computer science, biology, chemistry and medicine. Due to these characteristics, teaching is entrusted to teachers with specific training».
