The company Workshop of the Apocrypha will be among the winners of the XXXI edition of “Re Manfredi” International Culture Awardscheduled in Manfredonia on June 29, 2024.
The recognition conceived and coordinated by “Re Manfredi” Foundation wanted to recognize the work that the company has done in recent years in an ambitious attempt to create a theatrical community.
The Apocrypha, who in 2004 with a migration against the current chose to leave Bologna and artistically inhabit the city of Manfredonia and the Capitanata, are today one of the theatrical excellences of the Puglia Region and a company recognized by the Ministry of Culture. Their home is the city’s Teatro Comunale, which with their planning has become a center for permanent artistic research, around which an increasingly larger community gathers: teenagers, children, adults who cross the threshold of the theater to attend a show, or take part in a workshop or a meeting with artists who come from all over Italy, perhaps to be the chorus in a community production, the special artistic formula that sees artists and citizens together on stage, of which the Apocrypha are today among the major representatives in Italy.
“The Re Manfredi Award in this edition will also go to the Bottega degli Apocrifi company, a fundamental and stable center of culture in the city of Manfredonia which, in synergy with the Municipality and the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, through theatrical and workshop activities that train and raise awareness of aware and responsible citizens, it has actively contributed to the cultural development of the community”, declares Michele De Meopresident of the “Re Manfredi” Foundation.
“We are honored to receive the Re Manfredi Award and we are grateful for the reasons that led the committee to choose us. This is an area where feeling alone is easy and instigating relationships is what we have been doing with our artistic practice every day since we arrived in the area; it seems like yesterday and it seems like a lifetime ago. Since 2008, the year that marks our entry into the Teatro Comunale Lucio Dalla, we have combined the artistic production that takes us throughout Italy with the care of a public space, inviting the community to inhabit it with us, with the good fortune that that community has grown , going back from children to adults. We had the privilege of seeing some of those kids become adults and accompanying them as they transformed a passion into a profession, which gave them a reason to stay here. This Award is a prestigious recognition, even more important because it comes from our City and today gives us the measure of the fact that we are not alone. Let it be a collective hope that we can also have an impact with our way of doing/being theater on the retention rate in this territory”, the words of Cosimo Severoartistic director of the “Bottega degli Apocrifi” company.
