There are just a few days left to participate in the 15th edition of the “Simona Cigana Award”. The annual, national, multimedia, multilingual competition confirms June 30th as the deadline for the publication of journalistic reports which can be sent to the secretariat of the Pordenone press club, creator and organizer of the proven initiative.

As in previous years, the deadline for submission is July 10th. The works published in Italian and foreign newspapers between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024 must be delivered by this date.

FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA. For some time the reports have been arriving via email and registered mail with return receipt, while the wait is growing to understand what the authors’ choices will have been regarding the topics, always referring to Friuli Venezia Giulia. Will services on a strictly local level or those of regional and national importance inspired by events in this part of the North-East territory prevail?

One fact is certain: as always the competition will express a mosaic of what has happened in a year of topics from the reality of Friuli Venezia Giulia in the broad context of national and international life. In fact, here lies the originality of the event, now mentioned in the CVs of the winners and considered among the events capable of giving strength to Pordenone’s candidacy as the capital of Italian culture in 2027.

IN THE NAME OF SIMONA. Another aspect to remember is the dedication to a young journalist, Simona Cigana (Aviano, 1976-2007), who the Press Club and the community of journalists of Friuli Venezia Giulia remember as an eclectic interpreter of 360-degree current affairs, typical of the most genuine chroniclers. Her figure and her work were described by her colleagues in the book “Simona”, published in 2021 by the Pordenone press club and the Cigana family. Among the objectives of the work is to demonstrate that the journalist from Aviano, despite her short life, was able to express a mentality open to the world, without ever losing the connection with the reality of her own territory.

THE PUBLIC VOTE. Since what journalists entrust to paper newspapers, radio, television and the web is aimed without distinction at citizens, the competition is also open to this last category. Readers and listeners can in fact point out the services that, in their opinion, are worthy of being submitted to the competition. It is obvious that the authors, by regulation, can participate spontaneously, but they can also do so upon notification from the public to the Press Club.

THE FIVE CATEGORIES. The competition takes into consideration reports belonging to five categories: Investigation, Sport, Economy/Crafts, Accidents at work, Aviano/Avianese. The prizes are reported in the Notice/Regulations published on the site www.stampa.pordenone.it

OUT OF COMPETITION. The Notice also includes an “Out of competition” section, again with the theme of Friuli Venezia Giulia in the same period of one year: newspaper publications and editorial offices; journalists who have published books in the same period of time 2023-2024; journalists who have distinguished themselves for particular professional merits.

CONTRIBUTION TO INFORMATION. With the 15th edition, the “Simona Cigana Award” offers a free professional comparison outside the logic of the “award” of characters chosen above all to act as an attraction. As for the sponsors and patrons, it must be said that theirs is a meritorious contribution to what information expresses in a genuine way, thanks to the values of freedom and democracy.
