Last night in Piazza Grande was the last evening of trials for the jousters. This evening, Wednesday 19 June, starting at 9.30 pm, is scheduled the Race Simulation which will see the jousters compete against the Buratto with a single shot. According to the order of careers drawn, the reserves of the four districts will race first, followed by the starting jousters.
It will take place on Thursday 20 June at 9.30pm the General Rehearsal of the 145th Giostra del Saracino dedicated to the memory of Vittorio Farsetti for which tickets are available both online at https://discoverarezzo.ticka.it/ and at the ticket office of the “I Colori della Giostra” exhibition itinerary (ground floor of Palazzo Comunale) today and tomorrow until 7.00pm and Thursday continuously from 9am to 9.30pm.
VITTORIO FARSETTI (8 July 1923 – 16 February 1977)
Multi-victorious captain of the Porta Crucifera district, Vittorio Farsetti was one of the protagonists of the revival of the Giostra del Saracino in the post-war period, constantly working to keep up the name of the event of which he proudly claimed the great historical and cultural value in written documents. Together with other figures such as Fracassi, Raffaelli, Paci, Tenti and Morelli he marked an unforgettable golden era for Colcitrone. At the helm of the neighborhood from 1948 to 1971, under his aegis Porta Crucifera won nine Golden Lances including those of the coats of 1949 and 1952. Twenty years of successes, including the record of five consecutive between 1951 and 1954 leading jousters such as Vannozzi, Torrini, Gallorini, Leoni, Gori, Formica, Tabanelli to victory. Forced, in 1972, to abandon the captain’s costume due to health problems, he continued to make his contribution to the neighborhood by holding managerial positions until his death in 1977, most recently that of vice-rector. He was one of the most victorious captains of the Giostra and the second in the Porta Crucifera district after Raffaelli. On 28 August 1977 he received, in his memory, the recognition of “Meritorious of the Giostra del Saracino” awarded by the Magistracy of the Giostra.
The winning neighborhood will receive the Silver Platter, the General Test trophy, from the Mayor of Arezzo. For the occasion, the collaboration with the Butchers Association of Confcommercio Arezzo is also renewed, which will offer the winning neighborhood the traditional porchetta and to which thanks go from the municipal administration and the rectors of the four neighborhoods.
ACCESS REGULATION
Both for the General Rehearsal and for the Joust on Saturday 22 June, the usual safety and control measures by security personnel will be active. As regards the residents of the historic center, in particular of the areas affected by the bans put in place on the occasion of the General Rehearsal and the Giostra del Saracino, the regulations that regulate access to the event area are unchanged. electronics [email protected] communicating their names. Once the entrances to the square have been reached, interested parties will be accompanied to the numbers indicated by security personnel. Please remember that it is absolutely forbidden to bring glass bottles, firecrackers, smoke bombs, rods, blunt objects and any other object capable of offending or causing damage to things or people into the event area.
