Sole Luna Doc film festival returns to Palermo, the international review of real cinema that has been held in Palermo for 19 years. Scheduled from 1 to 7 July 2024 in the open spaces of the GAM/Galleria d’arte Moderna and Palazzo Branciforte: screenings, talks, exhibitions and workshops. 50 films scheduled between competition and out of competition, including 14 previews on themes that concern human and social rights and that question viewers on global phenomena such as migration, the environmental emergency, and adolescence in the post-Covid era in various corners of the world.
Numerous guests will be at the festival again this year. Among others, Tommaso Santambrogio among the emerging Italian authors of the moment, the Polish director Małgorzata Kozera who presents the international preview of the film Faces of Agata, the director Iván Zahinos author of Don Benjamin which addresses the issue of pollution of the Rio Tinto in the Bolivian Amazon. The international jury that will evaluate the feature films and shorts is composed of: the French producer Nadejè Labè who has produced several documentaries including Mother Lode by Matteo Tortone and who is co-producing with Zalab the documentary Danisinni, by Danny Biancardi, Stefano La Rosa and Virginia Nardelli set in Palermo; the film critic and anthropologist Nora De Marchi, artistic director of the international film festival FrontDoc since 2022; the journalist of Internazionale Annalisa Camilli; the art critic Fabio Benzi; and the winner of the last edition, the Colombian director Sergio Guataquira Sarmiento. His first feature film, Adieu Sauvage, presented in national preview at the Sole Luna Doc Film Festival 2023, was acclaimed in over thirty festivals around the world, obtaining over 25 awards and special mentions. Among the special events, a tribute to Danilo Dolci and the exhibition Upwards/Downwards. Lorenzo Reina’s Andromeda Theatre which for the first time explores with a scientific gaze the Andromeda Theatre of Lorenzo Reina, making known the studies of Imago rerum/Università Iuav di Venezia and the University of Trieste, through the curators Agostino De Rosa and Alessio Bortot.
