The trial began this morning (June 18) and was immediately suspended (for 45 minutes) to decide on request for the establishment of a civil partythe trial for the crime of environmental pollution in relation to smog: the public prosecutor Gianfranco Colace and the deputy prosecutor Vincenzo Pacileo accuse the administrations of Chiara Appendino, Piero Fassino and the former president of the Piedmont Region Sergio Chiamparinobecause they would not have taken adequate measures regarding the containment of levels of environmental pollution.
As mentioned, the judge of the Turin court Roberto Ruscello will have to decide on the requests to join the civil action by the associations Torino respira (which presented the complaint, with the lawyer Marino Careglio), Justice climate now (an expression of Fridays for future), Isde (doctor association for the environment) and Greenpeace; as well as seven private individuals, including some environmental engineers who studied at the Polytechnic in those years, protected by lawyers Alessandro Gariglio and Oriana Peraboni.
By order, in the early afternoon, the judge accepted the filing of civil parties by the associations Torino Respira, Isde and Greenpeace, rejecting all the others, including those of private citizens. The hearing – pre-trial – continued with the examination of the preliminary questions.
