RFI activates the Train Control System on the Foggia-Potenza line: first section Cervaro-Rocchetta

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), leader of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Italiane Group, activated the Train Control and Operation System (SCMT) on the first section of the Foggia-Potenza line, between Cervaro and Rocchetta. This is a new and significant milestone in the process of modernizing the line, which includes interventions on five station systems (Cervaro, Ordona, Ascoli Satriano, Candela and Rocchetta) and the intermediate sections.

The introduction of the SCMT system will guarantee better management of railway traffic, with high standards of train regularity and punctuality. This first step represents the start of the equipment with SCMT of the entire Cervaro-Potenza section, scheduled in phases by 2026, with a total investment of approximately 8 million euros financed with PNRR funds.

The activation of the SCMT on the Cervaro-Rocchetta section is part of the broader modernization and electrification project of the Foggia-Potenza line, for a total amount of approximately 446 million euros. The interventions, which will speed up connections and improve travellers’ comfort, are part of RFI’s investment plan for the sustainable development of rail transport in Italy.
