the budget of Rifondazione Comunista

A first assessment of Rifondazione Comunista of the municipal elections and an indication in view of the run-off.

The list that we animated, together with other political subjects and citizens of different sensitivities, Popular Unity for Avellino, did not have the desired result, failing to elect councilors in the municipal meeting. However, the number of votes is not irrelevant, considering the polarization that has been recorded among the blocks of major lists, in an inevitably tough electoral campaign, also due to the well-known events that are affecting the outgoing mayor and those who have presented themselves in continuity with that experience.

We thank those who have committed themselves to this adventure, starting with the candidate for mayor Aldo D’Andrea, for their efforts in building the list and running the electoral campaign, and all the candidates who put their name to it.

On the ballot.

On the one hand there is an indistinct aggregate that claims continuity without saying a word on the moral issue that has affected it. This is not limited to the judicial framework that has emerged in recent months against Festa and his loyalists but includes, first of all, a private conception of public affairs, absolute contempt for administrative transparency and for forums for democratic discussion, the concentration of decision-making moments in the hands of the mayor and the small coterie close to him, a widespread transformism, with predatory traits, widely practiced in supra-municipal and management bodies (see the Irpiniambiente-Grande srl affair), a certain way of acting within the limits of the law.

On the other hand, while remaining convinced that the centre-left coalition is still too conditioned by that PD whose system of power and patronage policies that have always characterized it we contest, we cannot fail to note the success of the progressive lists and candidates present in the coalition, with whom we have had common paths and collaboration also in the past council. We also trust in the autonomy of the mayoral candidate, Antonio Gengaro, whose path we have crossed paths with several times in the past and whose love for the city we recognize.

During the election campaign we tried to keep high attention on programmatic priorities that are essential for us, such as:

– the opening of the autism center managed in collaboration with the ASL;

– the urgent interventions on the degradation of the districts and peripheral neighborhoods, acting primarily, for the health consequences, on the demolition and reconstruction of heavy prefabricated buildings and on the removal and disposal of the asbestos which the roofs are made of;

– the strengthening of the Area Plan and transparency in its management to effectively combat social hardship, constantly increasing poverty and discrimination based on origin or cultural and gender affiliation.

On these issues, which will continue to be the subject of our initiatives, we ask Antonio Gengaro to make a public commitment to have our support and our vote.
