Four car washes seized in the province of Agrigento on charges of environmental pollution. Two are located in the center of the city of the Temples and in the Villaseta district. The checks were carried out by ARPA and the SAF fire brigade who took samples of soil and various materials. The examination is awaited to understand the extent of the environmental pollution.
Seizures also in Licata
In one of the two car washes, some boxes that were apparently placed illegally were also seized. The two owners, a seventy-year-old and a forty-year-old, were reported to the prosecutor’s office. Investigations revealed that he had been discharging untreated water for years. Seizures also occurred in Licata, where checks were carried out by the Port Authority. From the checks carried out it emerged that two car washes would have discharged directly onto the land or into the sewers without any filtering system. Also in this case, the owners were referred to the judicial authorities.
Irregular car wash in Catania
The carabinieri of the Catania Nesima station, supported by colleagues of the 12th “Sicilia” Regiment and with the help of personnel from the Environmental department of the municipal police of Catania, reported the owner of a car wash, a 49-year-old from Catania, for violation of the rules in environmental matters: from the checks it was ascertained that the company, located in Viale Mario Rapisardi, was operated in the absence of control of industrial waste water discharges and without any authorization for discharge. For these reasons, the entire car wash area, with all its equipment, was seized, while the commercial activity was permanently closed. The 43-year-old was then also sanctioned for a total amount of 5,164 euros, because he totally lacked further authorizing documents, including the Scia (Certified Report of Start of Activity), the declaration certifying the moral and professional requirements, the one relating to urban planning compliance, construction and sanitation, as well as the form for special waste
