It will not be a Sports Hall as imagined in 2001 and then designed in 2014, with a capacity of 3,000 people and a construction cost of around 18 million euros, but a “mini Hall”, smaller in structure and, it goes without saying , in costs.

The Rasero administration also approved the green light for the design of the new Palasport in Piazza d’Armi, entrusting the task to ATP “Progeco Engineering Srl” with operational headquarters in Rocchetta Tanaro, the same one that took care of the design of the new Philadelphia stadium in Turin.

The new sports building in Piazza Cosma Manera (new name for Piazza d’Armi) will be built, if there are no other impediments, in the portion between Via Antico Ippodromo, Via Allende and the buildings in Via Ginella. This is to leave space in the southern part of the area, where the service road is present, so as to make traffic connected to the use of the infrastructure easier.

From a project that would have cost 18 million we moved on to another that is around 6 million euros (approximately 4,150,000 euros based on the auction price), including the external areas. This means, in particular, having to sacrifice the capacity of the stands which will contain, as the surveyor Mirko Ponzo explains, between 200 and 400 people. The figure is not yet certain, but still well under one thousand. A volleyball and basketball court will be set up inside the new Palasport, but it can only be used to play one discipline at a time. So no multiple courts even if, with a structure that will be 10 meters high, the silver basketball and A3 series volleyball games can be played, those scheduled for structures that contain less than 1,000 spectators.

Working on the design was not only Progeco (parent company), but also Mcm Engineering Srl, the engineers Luigi Garioni, Enrico Fabris, Andrea Rapetti, Matteo Bosia and the geologist Andrea Piano. The project for the new mini indoor stadium must be delivered by 20 September, then it will be subjected to the opinion of CONI for confirmation of financing and the executive version will be available by the end of the year. If there are no problems, the tender will be called in the first months of 2025 and it is estimated that the works will last approximately 18 months.

«I am very happy that we can proceed with this project because we have been behind it for some time since for us it is essential to have sports facilities for schools and associations – comments the deputy mayor and councilor for Public Works Stefania Morra – In the meantime we have put the Palazzetto in via Gerbi which hasn’t been in place for years is normal, we will build a gym at the Fontanino and we have built two at the Enofila. I also thank the honorable citizens of Asti who followed the long process of this structure in Rome, doing their part to guarantee the funds.”

Mayor Rasero is also very satisfied with the acceleration of the project. «Our attention towards the world of sport continues – he comments – It was a job that started from afar, with the collaboration of our Roman and regional representatives, to see resources recognized that could have been taken away from us after all this time. The structure will be added to the many that we have created or improved in recent years, allowing sports clubs to find the right spaces in a city that, before us, lacked them. The numbers speak clearly and are objective data that say that there is no administration in the Second Republic that has invested as much in sport as ours.”
