AOSTA. Roberto Dissegna, 57 years old from Romano d’Ezzelino, is the mountaineer who lost his life this morning – Monday 17 June – while he was reaching the summit of the Gran Paradiso (ARTICLE HERE).

Butcher from Felette di Romano d’Ezzelino, Dissegna was an expert mountaineer, enrolled in the Bassano del Grappa section of the CAI. A cross-country ski instructor, he had spent the night at the Chabod refuge together with his climbing partner and left at dawn to reach the top of the Gran Paradiso.

While he was facing a small descent, before the last uphill stretch, the tragedy: the 57-year-old fell for about 300 meters along the slope facing Cogne, in front of his friend and another group of climbers. They were the ones who activated the rescue: sThe Valle d’Aosta Alpine Rescue staff arrived at the siteobviously supported by the air ambulance and also by the agents of the Entréves financial police.

The body was recovered and recomposed in the morgue of the Courmayeur cemetery. The climbing partner, in the meantime, was accompanied back to the valley by a mountain guide and then had to identify the body. He only learned of his friend’s death once he returned to the refuge: until the end he hoped that he had managed to grab hold of somewhere and save himself.

The causes are still to be defined: the point where the tragedy occurred must be tackled with a double rope. It is possible that an anchor has given way or that the rope holding it has slipped.
