A boutique festival in two unique and immersive locations, which from Basilicata looks to the sound of tomorrow.
From July 27th to August 3rd get back to Matera It is in the Pollino National Park, Open Sound Festival with James Holden, Bombino, Venerus (dj set), Thru Collected, Vladimir Ivkovic, Fossick Project (Marta Del Grandi & Cecilia Valagussa), Paolo Angeli and other names.
A festival that hosts the avant-gardes of the Euro-Mediterranean scene, embodying and telling the idea of Land Music Experience that is, an investigation into the landscape and territories carried out through sound, rhythms and ancestral rites that reveal themselves to be full of the future.
This is demonstrated by a lineup of artists who love to embark on unexplored sound paths, with the artistic direction of Alioscia Bisceglia.
The program starts Saturday 27 July from San Severino Lucano (Potenza), in the locality of Mulino Iannarelli, in the mountains, among the greenery and under the sky of the Pollino National Park where the wonderful avant-gardes of the guitar-orchestra will vibrate Paolo Angeli and the travels of the famous Tuareg guitarist Bombino.
From Wednesday 31 July to Saturday 3 Augustinstead, we move to Materaat The Monacelle, a charming former convent in the historic center of the Città dei Sassi, overlooking the wonderful Murgia Materana Park. Opening on July 31st are the Afro-futurist notes of Raffaele Costantino and followed by the set of a resistant clubbing flag, the Serbian DJ Vladimir Ivkovich. The evening will also see the delivery of the OSA Award – City of Matera, already assigned to Dardust (2022) and Elasi (2023). The following day, Thursday 1st August, it is the turn of the suggestions of Fossick Project (Marta Del Grandi and Cecilia Valagussa)of the Italian dub reference Paolo Baldini Dubfiles and the French duo Ko Shin Moon. Friday 2 August, unmissable appointment with i Thru Collectedthe Neapolitan collective considered by the media and the public among the best names of 2023 and, on the same evening, Venus (DJ set) leading artist on the Italian scene. On stage too Federico Nitti, sound and visual designer of Lucanian origins with high-level international experience. Closing the Matera programme, on Saturday 3 August, are Leia Rufusthe duo Daduband the highly anticipated live performance of the British DJ and producer James Holden.
New for 2024 is that the project takes another step forward in the wake of its investigation and revolution on sound with the first record production by Open Sound, released on vinyl and digital, in collaboration with Hyperjazz Records.
This production is the restitution of the path taken in 2023 with the OSA project in which innovation and origins dialogue through a call, a co-creative residency and an unreleased final performance which was, finally, recorded on record, to embellish and establish a significant piece in the path traced so far.
The record will come introduced during Open Sound Festival 2024.
From the first edition in the context of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019Open Sound, with the general direction of Nico Ferricontinues to grow, attracting the attention of professionals, musicians, producers, DJs, music enthusiasts and cultural tourists, as one of the most interesting formats on the current scene.
Open Sound, with its OSA format, has also been replicated outside Basilicata, both in its entire project structure and with its original shows and sets presented, in recent years, at Milan (Linecheck Music Meeting and Festival), Turin (_resetfestival), Saluzzo (APM School of Higher Musical Specialization), Naples (Male Angevin), Bari (Basilicata Free To Move), also arriving abroad (Hong KongAsia Cultural Co-operation Forum, DubaiExpo 2020).
Between residencies, unpublished performances, artists lined up with their own show, he hosted Clap!Clap!, Nu Genea, Jeff Mills and Jean Phi-Dary, Dardust, Elasi, The Night Skinny, Ninos Du Brasil, C’mon Tigre, Stabber, Splendore, Plastica, Foresta, Yakamoto Kotzuga, Vinicio Capossela, Giulia Tess, Max Casacci, DJ Gruff, Dub Fx, Rocco Rampinotraditional musicians Alberico Larato, Agostino Cortese & the AgoTrance, Rino Locantore, Daniela Ippolito, the Tamburi di Boom, and again go-Dratta, Giorgio Mirto, Paolo Polcari, xx.buio, Maxwell Simmons and many, many others.
