REGGIO EMILIA – L’Emilia Romagna takes action against the increase in cases of mental and psychological distress. In 2023, there were 64,975 people treated by Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry Services, 4.2% more than in 2021, 80,740 people treated by adult mental health centers (+9.2%), 21,563 people who they followed a treatment path at the Pathological Addiction Services, with an increase of 63.8% for drug and medication abuse and 30.2% for alcoholism.
For this reason the Region has allocated today 40 million additional ones to help the most fragile subjects: patients of the Centres, autistic people, people with intellectual disabilities and, especially among the youngest, with eating disorders. The plan developed by the Council aims to promote a personalized therapeutic approach to put the needs of individuals at the center of intervention strategies.
Of the total 40 million, just over 5 million they will be destined forLocal health authority of Reggio Emilia, the majority, over 4 million, will go to the Possible Autonomy Fund, to finance low-intensity socio-health care interventions for patients discharged from former psychiatric hospitals, from Rems or subject to alternative measures to prison. 550 thousand euros, however, will be allocated to three separate projects on autism. Also noteworthy is the 84 thousand euros for interventions to combat nutrition and eating disorders, the diagnoses of which in the last 5 years have increased in Emilia Romagna by 86.4%, the highest percentage growth among all those assisted by neuropsychiatry services of childhood and adolescence.
