Viterbo – Luigi Telli (Communist Refoundation): “The news that it has been decided to divert all new members to other structures is alarming”

Viterbo – We receive and publish – Let’s talk about the municipal nursery “I Cuccioli” (what we all call “Onmi”, above the Shrine): beyond the real or presumed idiosyncrasies, what does Chiara Frontini intend to do in her role as mayor of Viterbo?

The news came from a few days ago, and it is frankly alarming: it was decided to divert all the new members of the municipal nursery school to other structures, thus condemning the only nursery school in the historic center to progressive closure.

The residents of the center will have to equip themselves to send their children to distant public kindergartens, often on the opposite side of the city. But is it possible?

A provincial capital city, with the much celebrated medieval-historical-centre-largest-in-Europe, whose residents should be pampered; the proclamations in favor of cameras on the valorization (including urban planning) of San Faustino as a historic, popular, lively and multi-ethnic neighborhood… Are all empty words? What will happen to the staff who work at the nursery? And that service, highly qualified and precious, especially in a popular neighborhood like San Faustino? Is it closed permanently – or, if we want to be malicious, are we thinking of making money by letting it die and then perhaps being reborn entrusted to some cooperative?

If, however, the problem is that structural adjustment or compliance work should be carried out, how long will this work last? And what is the cost? And where will the kindergarten children go? And where will those who work there go?

We would like clear answers. Usually it is said that the work should be done, but it cannot be done because there is no money: but in recent weeks it sounds like an excuse. The funds for nursery schools cannot be found, but for months the government has been putting money towards the purchase of weapons to send to Ukraine or Israel, in defiance of the constitution which not only rejects but “repudiates” war.

The money is there: therefore the problem is political. And on this problem we at Rifondazione Comunista ask: Mayor Frontini, do you have anything to say on the matter? How do you intend to move?
