Sicilian healthcare managers appointed. As anticipated months ago by BlogSicilia, the transition from commissioners to director general of the island’s health leaders came immediately after the European elections despite the fact that the transfer to the first Ars commission with the silent absinthe had already been made months earlier and therefore the appointments were possible for weeks already.
Green light for almost everyone
The government therefore gives the go-ahead to assign the roles of general director of the companies and bodies of the regional health service. The new manager contract scheme was also approved which provides, at the behest of the President of the Region Renato Schifani, specific and concrete objectives especially on the reduction of waiting lists, with quarterly monitoring and an annual verification of the achievement of the same, under penalty of automatic dismissal of general managers even after the first year of taking office.
The council, on the proposal of the Health Councilor Giovanna Volo, confirmed the roles of the former extraordinary commissioners, for example with the exception of that of the ASP of Catania, Giuseppe Laganga Senzio. Management continuity will be ensured by the health director of the Etna provincial company, as required by law. Subsequently, the ordinary body of the ASP of Catania will be appointed.
“New stability” says governor Renato Schifani
“Giving new stability to regional public health and breaking down waiting lists – says Schifani – are two of the main commitments undertaken by my government since it took office and we are working concretely in this direction. Introducing, among the objectives of the new managers, full compliance with the Regional Plan approved by the council in July last year, under penalty of revocation of the role, will serve to guarantee patients timely access to treatment. I find it sacrosanct that managers who have responsibilities are subjected to the necessary checks of their objectives. It is our intention to give citizens qualified and rapid responses to their health needs.”
All the names
These are the names and destinations of the new general directors appointed in the provincial health authorities: Daniela Faraoni at the ASP of Palermo, Giuseppe Cuccì at the ASP of Messina, Giuseppe Capodieci at the ASP of Agrigento, Salvatore Lucio Ficarra at the ASP of Caltanissetta, Mario Carmelo Zappia at the ASP of Enna, Giuseppe Drago at the ASP of Ragusa, Alessandro Caltagirone at the ASP of Syracuse, Ferdinando Croce at the ASP of Trapani.
These, however, are the managers of the hospital companies: in Palermo, Walter Messina at the Arnas “Civico” and Roberto Colletti at the “Villa Sofia-Cervello” combined hospitals; in Catania, Giuseppe Giammanco at the Arnas “Garibaldi” and Salvatore Emanuele Giuffrida at the “Cannizzaro”; in Messina, Catena Di Blasi at “Papardo”. In the polyclinics: Maria Grazia Furnari in Palermo and Giorgio Giulio Santonocito in Messina. Previously, Gaetano Sirna had already been appointed at the Catania Polyclinic and Maurizio Letterio Lanza at the Irccs “Bonino Pulejo” in Messina.
Two weeks for signing contracts
Within 15 days of signing the contracts, the new managers will have to proceed with the appointment of the health and administrative directors, already selected by the Region.
Regarding the new contract scheme, it is expected that, within thirty days of taking office, the general managers will prepare a specific operational plan for governing and recovering the waiting lists which must be approved by the Health Department. Among the new features, also the necessary achievement of one hundred percent of the actions envisaged in the timetable of the Regional Operational Plan (Por) of Mission 6 – Health of the Pnrr.
