The two specimens of Caretta carettaamong the most widespread but at risk species in the Mediterranean, have been released off the coast of the Secche della Meloriathe small island west of the Livorno coast.

The recovery of the two animals was carried out as part of theactivities of the Tuscan Observatory for Biodiversity network.

The story of Agata

Calandrino

It is not known whether it is a male or female specimen. What is certain is that it is very young.

His rescue occurred on February 25, 2024after being found wasted and with infected lesions on his limbs on Calabrone beachin the province of Pisa, probably after a storm.

Little Calandrino, so called because of the uncertainty of his sex, has a peculiarity. In fact, the little turtle only has three fins. The fourth was most likely taken away from him some time ago by a predator.
