Mourning in Foggia, the former mayor Paolo Agostinacchio and historic exponent of the social movement has died

He died in his study, Paolo Agostinacchio, historic lawyer, mayor of Foggia from 1995 to 2004 and exponent of the Italian Social Movement. Eighty-six year old Agostinacchio died of a heart attack on Wednesday morning in his office where he went every year for work. From a very young age he had embraced politics.
A historic exponent of the Italian Social Movement, he had previously been a municipal councilor and in 1983 was elected deputy for the first time. He was subsequently re-elected in 1992 and remained in office until 1995. From 1995 to 2004 he was mayor of Foggia.
In November 1999, as mayor of the capital municipality, he faced the emergency of the collapse of the building in Viale Giotto which caused the death of 67 people. In 2003 he ran for President of the Province of Foggia for the centre-right but obtained 40 percent of the preferences.
In 2009 he returned to the city council in Foggia with Francesco Storace’s La Destra even though he was recently close to Fratelli d’Italia. Politics was his great passion until his last days: in fact, he participated in some political meetings that took place for the elections for the European Parliament.
