On June 27th an event organized by the Regional Agency for Prevention and Protection of the Environment (Arpa Puglia) in collaboration with Ciheam Bari

Next June 27th, at 6.00 pm, the Cosimo Lacirignola Campus of Ciheam Bari will be the setting for the events dedicated to the importance of the oceans for our Planet and to the prize ArpAmare.

Organized by the Regional Agency for Prevention and Protection of the Environment (Arpa Puglia) in collaboration with Ciheam Bari, the initiative is part of the celebrations, for 2024, of the “World Oceans Day. Awaken new depths (of understanding, compassion, collaboration and commitment) for the protection of the Oceans and Seas”.

The event will begin with institutional greetings from Maurizio Raelidirector of Ciheam Bari, Vito Brunodirector general of Arpa Puglia, Vincenzo Leonechief rear admiral of the Maritime Directorate of Bari, Serena TriggianiCouncilor for the Environment of the Puglia Region.

These interventions will pave the way for a rich program of discussions and presentations by industry experts, who will share their experiences and knowledge, offering food for thought on how everyone can contribute to safeguarding the oceans.

“Despite being vital to humanity and every organism on Earth, ocean life is in grave danger,” he claims Maurizio Raeli, director of Ciheam Bari, who adds: «Providing information on the impact of human actions on the oceans, including through events such as the one celebrated at Ciheam Bari, is fundamental! We are all invited to contribute, scientists, institutions, civil society, policy makers and activists, each with their own skills, resources and energy. Only through synergies and collaborations can we find effective and sustainable solutions to restore the vitality of the ocean.”

Among the speakers present at the meeting there will be Francesco Senaexpert in freediving and marine adventures, Francesca Santoro, senior program officer for UNESCO Ocean Literacy, Carmelo Fanizza, president of the Jonian Dolphin Conservation, e Maurizio Giani of Herambiente, as well as creator of the Scart project which uses waste to create exclusive installations.

They will moderate the meeting Enrica Simonetti And Antonio Stornaiolowho will guide the public through a path aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge of marine issues.

ArpAmare: fourth edition for the visual arts

One of the highlights of the day will be the award ceremony of the fourth edition of the competition ArpAmare for the visual arts, scheduled for 7.00 pm. The competition, aimed at artists enrolled or graduated from the Fine Arts Academies of Puglia, will recognize the best works with cash prizes: 1500 euros for the first place, 1000 euros for the second and 500 euros for the third, as well as two special mentions from 250 euros each.

«The sea is the largest and most important ecosystem in the world, fundamental for the life of our planet – he underlined Vito Brunogeneral director of Arpa Puglia -. His ‘disease’ endangers not only biodiversity, but also the tourism economy and food security for millions of people. Now is the time to intervene: the prevention and protection operation must involve everyone, starting with citizens.

With the ‘ArpAmare’ competition, the awards ceremony for which will be held during the World Oceans Day celebrations, we want to raise awareness in the community through the combination of environment, art and young people. Rewarding young artists from the Apulian Fine Arts Academies represents a powerful driving force for promoting environmental awareness and collective responsibility.”

The evening will end with Without Bordersa show of words and music written by Onofrio Pagoneinterpreted by Augusto Masielloon the music of Mirko Signorile.

This event represents not only an occasion for celebration, but also a call to action for the protection and conservation of marine ecosystems, fundamental to the health of our Planet.
