He was released less than two months ago from the Rebibbia penitentiary institute, where he served 22 years of his sentence formurder of Monica Moretti, which occurred in Sassari in 2002. Raimondo Gaspa, now 52 years old, was arrested again for stalking, according to a scheme that partly follows what happened over twenty years ago in the Turritan capital.
At the time, the man had fallen in love with the woman, a 38-year-old urologist, but she did not reciprocate. “I called her, but she rejected me, she didn’t want to know about me. That’s why I decided to go to her house,” he said during the trial to the investigators. Moretti was brutally attacked, strangled and stabbed 50 times. The victim was found with a knife stuck in his throat. Gaspa also attempted to burn down his house before fleeing to cover his tracks.
Last April 21st the man was released from prison and was guilty of a new crime, that of stalking. This time, the victim is a young woman in her twenties, whom she had met casually during detention, because girlfriend of another prisoner. The girl was allegedly repeatedly harassed on the phone, even making heavy sexual advances, so much so that she was forced to change residence. The first two anonymous calls from her, with explicit advances from her, were made on the very day she was released from prison.
So thearrest for stalking by the carabinieri of the Rome Monte Spaccato station, who executed the precautionary custody order in prison issued by the investigating judge.
The judge’s order states that the man “today appears to be driven by an irrepressible criminal impulse which led him to reproduce, a few hours after his release from prison for the voluntary murder of the woman he fell in love with in 2022, serious illicit conduct, engaging in criminal behavior that denote a true seriality”. Gaspa is now under arrest in the Regina Coeli prison.
