Director Anne Riitta Ciccone presents her latest work thus: “This is a film that I had to make many years ago, because it is a true story, the fruit of a promise, which revolves around a theme so universal that it requires me to detach myself more possible from the truth to make it plausible. I’m glad I waited because, in the meantime, I explored and took courage in consolidating honest research. I couldn’t help but realize this true story, with language and vision which are my way of seeing the world, for those who, like me, prefer the representation of reality, not its imitation. I built this dramatic story with the nature of Greek tragedies, but I wanted to make it with a style and pace of a science fiction film.”

The director concludes: “It always excites me in a special way to present my work in Sicily, a bittersweet feeling because growing up in Sicily was both painful and developing a love for Beauty. After spending my adolescence planning an escape, in the shadow line of life I realized how much I owe to the land which is my father’s land, why grow up and grow up in a land so rich in contradictions, in resilience, in myth and Beauty has made me who I am.”

Synopsis: The idea of the existence of a god, or multiple gods whose purpose is to save the world becomes stronger in moments when human beings feel they have less control over reality. But Chiara doesn’t believe in gods. She works as a lighting technician in the staging, by coincidence, of a Dance Theater show dedicated to a god, Dionysus, who punishes humanity for not believing in his divine nature.

When Vittorio, Chiara’s young and charming father, comes into her life with an evil that seems to be considered on Earth, to all intents and purposes, as a divine punishment, Chiara must manage the most universal and atavistic reality that human beings of every part and time, they share.

This story, a true storyis staged as a representation that infinitely returns to the scene in the protagonist’s unconscious, like a Eucharist that leads only to a single response.
