save the occupants • newsrimini.it

Fear on Sunday afternoon around 6.30 pm in the waters between Rimini and Riccione for three occupants of a sailing vessel wrecked two miles from the coast near the Colonia Bolognese, between Rimini and Riccione. According to an initial reconstruction, during the maneuver known in sailing jargon as a jibe, the strong gusts of wind, reaching up to 25 knots, caused the boat to capsize and it sank within a short time. The cause of the sinking is probably to be found in the fact that the water lockers were open and this caused the vessel to take on water to the point of causing it to sink. The vessel still needs to be recovered from the seabed. There were three people on board: two men born in 1987 and 1981, and a woman born in 1981 from Rimini. Once in the water, the woman managed to call the Port Authority on her cell phone, then the line went dead before rescuers were informed of the exact location. After about half an hour of searching, the 2008 patrol boat of the Port Authority of Rimini and the fast boat of Riccione managed to locate the shipwrecked people. The people were rescued and taken to the port of Riccione around 8.30pm. Everyone is fine and none of them needed any special care.
