Fiumicino, humanitarian corridors: 191 Afghan refugees saved

Fiumicino, 17 June 2024 – 191 Afghan refugees will arrive on Thursday 20 June on a flight from Islamabad thanks to the humanitarian corridors promoted by the Italian Episcopal Conference (through Caritas Italiana), Community of Sant’Egidio, Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy, Tavola Valdese, Arci, in agreement with the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs.

Afghan citizens, refugees in Pakistan since August 2021, when the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan: they will immediately be transferred to different regions and started towards integration. TO starting from language learning and job placement, thanks to this project entirely supported by the proposing organisations, supported by some NGOs, including Solidaire, which contributed to the organization of the flight from Pakistan, Nove Onlus and the Pangea Foundation, which for months they have secured part of the families in their safe houses. The refugees will therefore be welcomed in houses and structures made available by the Community of Sant’Egidio, by the Italian Protestant Churches, by the Arci clubs, by Caritas, as well as by Italian associations and citizens, who have offered their apartments to host them.
