African anticyclone overheats Italy, peaks at 40°C – News

An African anticyclone is about to conquer almost all of Italy, causing temperatures to rise almost 10°C above the average for the period, recording peaks of 40°C. These are the forecasts of Antonio Sanò, founder of the website www.iLMeteo.it. In the meantime, today the good weather will prevail with clear skies in the Centre-South and slightly cloudy in the North. In the next few days temperatures will become the absolute protagonists. The escalation of the African heat will initially be gradual until Tuesday with maximum values around 32-34°C in the Centre-North and higher than these in Puglia, Sicily and Sardinia. From Wednesday and until Friday there will be further intensification of the heat. The hottest days seem to be those of Thursday 20th (summer solstice) and Friday when in the Centre-South the maximum values will reach peaks of 39-40°C as in Rome, Naples, Terni, Macerata, Florence, in the North also in Forlì and Ferrara. Higher values (up to 42-44°C) will instead be recorded in the internal areas of Sardinia and Sicily. In the rest of the North the anticyclone will not be as powerful, at least in the North West where the weather will gradually begin to deteriorate from Thursday evening. Temperatures in Piedmont and Lombardy will remain around 29-31°C while in the North Eastern plain they will reach 34-35°C, as in Bologna and Rovigo for example. As regards the duration of this African explosion, it would seem – according to the experts’ forecasts – that as early as the weekend of 22-23 June the anticyclone could begin to lose power with the first very strong storms in the North and a general drop in temperatures in all regions. In detail: Monday 17. In the North: prevalent sun, some isolated rain only in the Alps. In the Centre: sun and summer heat. In the South: sunny, intense heat on the Major Islands.

Tuesday 18. In the North: all sun and heat. In the Center: ample sunshine, increasing heat. In the South: sunny and warm.

Wednesday 19. In the North: more clouds in the North West, sun elsewhere. In the Center: prevailing sun, warm to 35°C. In the South: increasing heat.

Trend: increasingly strong heat wave with peaks of 40°C in the Centre-South, but worsening in the North West.
