At the end of the heavy defeat against Campobasso, President Antonini releases the following communication:
«Finally this interminable season is over. It’s sad to end it like this but the boys were exhausted and had no more. It could certainly have been managed much more dignifiedly and this leaves room for objective evaluations for the future on who can and cannot wear the grenade shirt which I remind our professionals must always be honoured. I apologize to the fans who came all the way to Grosseto for the unseemly performance; today we share a sense of regret for not having actually even tried to play it.
However, we close, it is good to remember, a triumphal, unforgettable season, which will remain in my and your hearts forever. Two championships won with as many historic promotions: an Italian Cup, an LNP Italian Super Cup, an Italian Basketball Cup semi-final and a championship final. Something exceptional that is not affected in the slightest by today’s result.
Regarding the rumors then circulating in the media, I would like to clarify the following:
1) I never even thought about leaving. I am making some deep reflections dictated by what happened after Fortitudo Bologna – Trapani Shark because I was not defended as I expected in the face of an abuse that ultimately suffered the entire community deprived of being able to celebrate the championship on the field and with an aberrant request for a despo made against the undersigned; 2) I have never publicly or privately expressed judgments against the fans.
I expressed disappointment because they did not understand the spirit with which I had constructed the evening nor did they seek a constructive discussion with me. But for me it’s already a thing of the past;3) I have never made any decision, including the celebration of June 13th, if not in the interest of the entire city, given that my objective, evidently understood by few, was to bring characters from national and international profile to spread the TRAPANI name everywhere. I realize that the city is not yet aware of what we have become this year, but I am convinced that all together we will improve to achieve the results we want.
Now let’s enjoy weeks of rest, knowing full well that I am already building two important teams for next year too. Happy holidays to everyone and always and only Forza Trapani. I love you!».
