The African anticyclone Minos begins its comeback over the central Mediterranean already today but the peak of the heat wave will be around mid-week, between Wednesday and Friday when temperatures in various regions of the Center and South could reach or even exceed 40 °C maximum. Less high temperatures in the North although with local peaks above 35°C but with high humidity given the soil soaked in previous rain. In the Center and South, however, the humidity will be lower and the heat will be scorching. Over the weekend, due to the arrival of some storms, we should see a gradual decrease in values.

From hot to bad weather

The entire first part of the week will be characterized by this escalation of heat, then the trough in the Iberian sector will begin to move towards France and a disturbance will reach northern Italy bringing the first strong thunderstorms.

Today peaks of heat in Sicily

Few variations in the North and Center with a slight local increase, slight increase also in the South with peaks of 36/37°C in Sicily. Little to report on the rainfall front with stable and largely sunny weather in Italy except for some variability in the Alpine and pre-Alpine sectors with the possibility of a few isolated showers, more likely in the central hours.

The first increase on Tuesday

General increase in temperature in the Center and South with values up to 37/38°C on the Islands, in Puglia and Calabria. Increase also in the North but with values still on average north of the Po. Sunshine expected everywhere in Italy except for isolated diurnal variability in the Alps but associated with short and weak intensity phenomena.

Wednesday peaks at 40 degrees in the South

The most acute phase of heat begins in Italy, particularly in the Centre-South. Peaks of 40/41°C can be reached in Sardinia, 39/40°C in Sicily and Puglia. The powerful African comeback will be accompanied by an increase in clouds and stratifications that will cross the sky of the Peninsula. At this juncture, some thunderstorms could begin to touch the north-western Alpine and pre-Alpine sectors, especially in the second part of the day.

The heat peaks on Thursday

Hot day across almost all of Italy. Torrid heat in the South with peaks above 40°C in Sardinia, Sicily, Puglia. 40°C also possible in the Center. Lower temperatures but very muggy heat in the North. A first unstable impulse is expected which should bring thunderstorms between medium-high Piedmont and upper Lombardy, phenomena which could also be intense. The weather would continue to remain stable elsewhere with few clouds and the African heat tending to reach its peak.

Hot Friday across Italy

Another hot day in Italy. Intense heat from North to South with high sultriness in the Po Valley. Highs of 40°C spread across the central and southern regions. We will be 10 to 15°C above average for the third decade of June. Northern Italy could witness a more incisive disturbed passage with showers and thunderstorms, even of strong intensity. Still stable and very warm weather in the central and southern regions, albeit with a drop in temperatures since Saturday. Sunday could also be characterized by a certain instability which could also involve the Centre.

The temperature has dropped since Saturday

Decrease in the North, especially north of the Po with values that should return to the average. Intense heat remains in the South although with a slight decrease compared to Friday in Sardinia and Campania.

Mild Sunday

A further decrease that will also affect the central regions on average. It resists the heat in the South but less intense.
