Singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, voice and guitar of TheFramesfounder together with Markéta Irglová dei The Swell Season, winner of Oscar Prize in 2008 with Falling Slowlybest original song from the film Ounces, Glen Hansard returns to Italy to present All That Was East Is West of Me Nowhis latest album released on October 20, 2023, together with the most famous songs from his repertoire.

The singer-songwriter’s first album after over four years, followed by a period in which Hansard he moved between collaborations with Eddie Vedder And Cat Power and live performances with The Frames and Markéta Irglová/The Swell Season.

All of these experiences helped give direction to All That Was East Is West of Me Nowan album that is at times noisy and meditative, sprawling and hypnotic, definitely Hansard’s rockiest album since Burn the Maps by The Frames.

All That Was East Is West of Me Now was born from a series of five concerts organized by Hansard by word of mouth in his small local pub during November 2022. “A song becomes what it is only through testimony” – he stated – and in the presence of an audience “lhe song finds a different path“. At the end of the residency, the album took shape and recording began with the long-time collaborator David Odlum in his studio on the outskirts of Dublin.

The title derives from the “sudden awareness that there is more behind than ahead” and suggests an investigation from a great height, taking into consideration the ground covered and also what is yet to be discovered. While the passage of time may be a central theme, these eight tracks focus more on the promise of the future than thoughts of regret or nostalgia.

Known for his memorable concert-shows, Hansard Like many, he has navigated the pandemic by doing pop-up shows on Instagram, which have proven to be a rewarding and useful way to stay in touch with his fan base. She recently posted Take Heart with his companion Marketa Irglováa single inspired by words spoken by Patti Smith during a performance in Brooklyn and written after spending time with some Ukrainian refugees in Ireland.

Previously he joined Eddie Vedder’s band The Earthlings, while he and Cat Power collaborated on the soundtrack of Sean Penn film Flag Day.

Born in Dublin in 1970, Hansard came to international attention thanks to his participation in the Alan Parker film The Commitments, in which he plays guitarist Outspan Foster. He subsequently founded the cult band The Frames in 1990, becoming one of the most appreciated and internationally acclaimed Irish musicians. In those years his ambitions for rock and folk alternated with moments of intimacy and quiet, during which he cultivated his solo career.

The first project created with Marketa Irglová, The Swell Seasondates back to 2006 and was an immediate success: the album was transformed into a film, Ounces, which became a small case in America, eventually obtaining two Grammy nominations for the soundtrack. Two years after the song Falling Slowlywith the collaboration of Irglová, wins theOscar for best original song For Ounces. In 2009 he released the album with The Swell Season Strict Joyand in 2023, more than ten years after the last record release, a new song arrives, The Answer Is Yes.

In the last few years Glen Hansard he dedicated himself to his solo project, alternating moments with the historic band The Frames. Rhythm and Repose it is his first solo studio work (2012), followed three years later by two albums released within a short time of each other. With Between Two Shores (2018) the artist completes the personal process of musical evolution, between new influences and personal events that shape his writing ability. Subsequent studio work This Wild Willing (2019) received the acclaim of Italian and international critics by combining originality and simplicity and expressing the original artistic direction undertaken by Hansard, between innovation, invention and experimentation.
