The tragedy in Sardinia. Pietro Stipa’s body will arrive in Maremma today

The body of Pietro Stipa will arrive in Grosseto today. and Saturday, in the waters of the Maddalena archipelago. The Tempio Prosecutor’s Office did not order an autopsy and granted permission to the family, who had arrived in Sardinia in the meantime. The Navy will take care of the return of the young diver’s body to Maremma. According to an initial reconstruction by the Coast Guard, around 4 am the young man decided to take a dinghy ride with his girlfriend, who lives in La Maddalena. As soon as we left the port, after a few minutes of navigation, the dinghy, for reasons to be ascertained, ended up on the rocks emerging in front of the island of Santo Stefano, a treacherous passage that everyone knows about, but which was fatal for Pietro Stipa. The impact with the rocks was terrible: thrown from the dinghy, Stipa hit his head on the rocks, losing consciousness and ending up under water. He would then have drowned. The alarm was raised by a passer-by who was on the port quay and heard the loud noise of the impact of the dinghy on the rocks. The Coast Guard patrol boat arrived at the accident site and found the girl in a state of shock but unharmed. It was she who alerted the military that her boyfriend was also on board. After an hour of searching, the body of the young naval lieutenant was recovered from the seabed. Her girlfriend, Erika Cavallo, was rescued, taken to hospital with a cervical sprain and yesterday she was discharged. The news of Pietro Stipa’s death left his many friends breathless, the boys with whom he had shared his love for the sea at the Talamone sailing school. Artemare club also participates in the mourning, darkening its banner in the headquarters of the Corso Antico in Porto Santo Stefano. “In 2019 – recalls Commander Daniele Busetto – as an aspiring midshipman he participated in the “Las Anclas” Trophy, a “Snipe” class regatta organized by the Spanish Naval Academy, winning the 3rd Naval Academies Race, a competition between 7 military crews from countries, proud to have successfully represented the Italian Navy”.
