Terni. Coop inaugurated the eco-compactor for the collection and recycling of plastic bottles. Shopping voucher of 2 euros for every 200 recycled bottles

Just two weeks after the last installations made in Perugia, Coop Centro Italia today inaugurated two more new eco-compactors for the collection and recycling of used PET bottles, the first in the province of Terni, which join the other 7 already operating at the Cooperative’s sales points.

The first machine, like the others, is the result of the collaboration between the Cooperative and Coripet, a voluntary non-profit consortium recognized by the Mase (Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security) which has as its mission the collection and recycling of plastic bottles. PET after their use, was inaugurated on Friday 14 June near the Ipercoop in Terni, in the presence of the Head of the Member and Consumer Area of the Coop Central Italy Group Jacopo Teodori and the representatives of the Coop Central Italy Members Section of Terni.

In the afternoon, the ninth eco-compactor of the Cooperative in Orvieto was put into operation together with representatives of the Coop Central Italy Members Section of Orvieto.

“With the inauguration of these two additional eco-compactors we also extend our continuous commitment to the correct recovery of resources in terms of environmental protection to the province of Terni – declared the Head of the Member and Consumer Area of the Coop Central Italy Group Jacopo Teodori We are convincedly pursuing a virtuous path that will see us still involved with other installations in the territories in which the Cooperative operates, always alongside the Coripet Consortium”.

“Eco-compactors are machines where citizens can leave PET bottles that have contained food liquids. The virtuous cycle begins in the eco-compactor, where the bottles are pressed to optimize logistics, and then continues in a recycling plant where the bottles will have a second life as R-PET, without producing new plastic” explains Monica Pasquarelli, Coripet eco-compactor installation manager.

Through the Coripet app, citizens will have the opportunity to insert PET bottles (which must be empty, not crushed, with cap, label and readable barcode) into the machines thanks to a simple code reading system. bars shown on the package. The bottles collected in this way will be directly recycled and transformed into R-PET, thus returning to being bottles suitable for containing food liquids. There is also a reward system for Coop members: for every 200 bottles delivered you receive a 2 euro discount voucher to use for shopping.
