Pesaro, 17 June 2024 – The first, true, scorching summer Sundayafter the false starts of recent weeks due to bad weather, it is an opportunity to analyze the critical issues and strengths of thetourist offer from the Capital of Culture.
There is desire of seaamong citizens and tourists, but this clashes with some shortcomings which the new newly elected mayor is already called upon to resolve exactly seven days after entering the municipal house.
The first very hot point is that of parking lots. Yesterday in the area below the mountain and in Viale Trieste, the parking was nothing short of wild and in some situations even very dangerous.
“It’s really not possible for the scooters to be left in the stalls where the ambulance should park in case of need – says an angry Mrs. Letizia, a bather on the beach below the mountain -. And the cars are parked everywhere even, in some cases, to obstruct access to dedicated areas. For the whole season, I pay for private parking to be able to leave my car. But most swimmers leave it where they happen to be. As long as the cars remain within the white lines there is nothing to say. But when I see them parked so wildly I really get angry and I have reported it to the police several times.”
And yesterday the traffic police arranged the removal of many cars park either at San Decenzio, in Piazzale Matteotti or in the streets adjacent to the historic centre. The extraordinary Sunday market and the antiques market have introduced a series of bans for cars which have not always been respected and so the tow truck he had to intervene for take away about ten cars. No fines have been issued for wild parking along the Adriatic state road of Sottomonte but it is clear that not every Sunday will go like this.
Another significant issue that the new council will have to deal with is that concerning the offer and evening entertainment. “Here in the evening, apart from the Monday evening and the Ferris wheel, there is very little – comments one of the owners of the Journal café at Palla di Pomodoro with a bit of regret -. Once upon a time there were more initiatives, for all age groups and not just for the elderly”. But summer, also thanks to the call of Capital of Cultureas a whole, started off on the right foot.
“Season it started quite well – he confirms Ivan Ubaldi, owner, together with Angelo Acquaviva, of the El Cid bar, always at the Pomodoro Ball – tourism is there. The weather has been crazy so far but we can say that summer has started a week ago. The capital of culture has brought benefits. There are many tourists of various nationalities, but it is tourism in bits and pieces. Tourists arrive, look at the various monuments and leave. Few stay and the holidays last two or three days, not whole weeks like they used to.”
