They are back again this year Lucca Comics Awards, known as the “Oscars” of Italian comics. Publishing houses have until June 28th to propose published titles, which will be selected by a competent jury to identify the excellence of the last year and decide on the finalist works.
There are six classic categories in which the works and their male and female authors will compete, who will receive awards during the Lucca Comics & Games 2024 (30 October – 3 November), during the official ceremony at the Teatro del Giglio: Yellow Kid Comic of the Year, Yellow Kid Author of the Year, Gran Guinigi Best Short Comic or Collection, Gran Guinigi Best Serial Comic, Gran Guinigi Best Drawing, Gran Guinigi Best Screenplay. During the evening, the Lucca Comics Awards independent of the annual selection: Yellow Kid Teacher/Master of Comics, Gran Guinigi Best Newcomer, Gran Guinigi for an Editorial Initiative – Stefano Beani Award. The jury that will award Yellow Kid and Gran Guinigi will be made up of two critics or journalists, two authors and a member of the cultural team of Lucca Comics & Games.
In this edition, a new category is introduced, intended to reward the best in comic production for children aged between 6 and 12: the Generations Awardwhich will have a different selection and will be assigned by a specific Jury, separate from that of the others Lucca Comics Awards. This jury will be made up of an author, an artistic director and an expert, all with specific skills in the field of children’s production.
The objective is to recognize all the professionalism related to the Ninth Art, with the creation of named technical awards Grand Guinigi Pro dedicated to colour, cover, lettering, editorial packaging and translation (English, French and Japanese), also intended for works not registered with AI Lucca Comics Awards. Publishing houses and authors can indicate those they deem worthy of consideration: the prizes will then be assigned by the Festival’s cultural staff, with announcement and delivery using specific methods.

This year, the possibility of requesting the author pass for the next edition of has been brought forward Lucca Comics & Games, following the instructions in the dedicated area of the site. Therefore, all artistic figures who work in the production of comics (including story writer, screenwriter, designer, inker, colorist, cover artist, translator, letterer) can request access by presenting the required documentation. Fantasy authors (including those who create genre illustrations published by publishing houses) can also request their pass. By September 22nd, all people who have been duly accredited will receive an official confirmation, thus guaranteeing the possibility of organizing their presence in Lucca from October 30th to November 3rd.
